Red Bull Rally dos Ventos

Last weekend (13/14 September 2014) saw the Red Bull Rally dos Ventos stop by the Lençóis. The “Kite Endurance” rally, kiters have to master a route of approximately 16 km inside the National Park of Lençóis in the shortest possible time. Participants require both advanced technical skills and physical fitness kiting part of the journey along the lagoons and the rest on the dunes.

The best kitesurfers in the world gathered in the desert to face 16 km of water, sand and heat in an unprecedented competition.

Among the names of participants were Estonian Kristiin Oja, the current leader of the women’s world rankings Annelous Lammertz, and French Marie Desandre, vice world champion kite speed, American Susi Mai and Brazilian Bruna Kajiya, freestyle world champion 2009.

In the men’s competitions attendees included French Alex Caizergues, three times world champion kite speed and current record holder for speed, Brazilian Wilson Veloso, Brazilian champion and twice world champion Master of kiteracing; and Robert Veiga one of the highest ranked kitesurfers in the world.
